Connecting your store to couriers and accounting
Every manual step between an order and a delivered, recorded sale is a chance for error. Integrations remove some of those steps.
The short answer
Connect the steps that cost the most time or cause the most mistakes first. For most stores that means: order to courier booking and tracking, order and payment to accounting, and stock levels between the store and any other sales channel. Test the full path with real test orders before you rely on it.
Start with the order path
Map what happens from the moment a customer pays to the moment the sale is recorded: payment, packing, courier booking, delivery, cash collection if you accept cash on delivery, and accounting entry. Mark where people retype data or check several screens. Those are the best candidates to automate.
Couriers
A courier integration can send order details, create bookings, print labels and update tracking back to the customer. Before choosing, confirm that the couriers you actually use (for example the national and regional couriers many Pakistani stores rely on) offer a reliable connection or API for your platform. If they do not, a manual bulk upload may be the realistic option for now.
If you accept cash on delivery, decide how collected amounts are reconciled: courier settlement reports need to match your orders.
Accounting
Connecting orders and payments to your accounting records reduces re-typing and gives your accountant cleaner data. Decide what level of detail your accountant needs: daily totals, individual orders, fees, refunds or taxes, and agree it before building.
Stock and payments
- Keep stock levels consistent between the store and any other sales channel to avoid overselling.
- Confirm how each payment method settles and how refunds are handled.
- Decide which system is the “source of truth” for stock and for customer data.
Platform choice affects what is available: see Shopify vs WooCommerce, and for complex requirements custom ecommerce.
Test the full path
- Place test orders with each payment method.
- Follow each through courier booking, tracking and delivery status.
- Check the accounting entry, including fees and refunds.
- Test edge cases: cancelled orders, partial refunds, out-of-stock items.
- Have a manual fallback for when an integration is down.
Our ecommerce integrations service plans, builds and tests these connections, and the ecommerce page shows how they fit into a whole store. Integrations are also part of what it costs to build a store; see what a website costs in Pakistan.
Frequently asked questions
Which integration should I do first?
The one that removes the most repeated manual work: usually courier booking, then accounting.
Do I need custom development?
Not always. Many platforms have apps or plugins. Custom work is for workflows the standard options cannot handle.
What if my courier has no API?
Use bulk upload or a manual process until a reliable connection exists, and keep the order data clean so automation is easy later.
How do I keep stock accurate?
Choose one source of truth, sync changes automatically where possible, and reconcile regularly.
