Local SEO for businesses with more than one location
Several branches mean several chances to be found locally, and several ways for details to drift out of step.
The short answer
Give each branch its own page on your website and its own Google Business Profile, keep the business name, category and details consistent across all of them, collect genuine reviews for each branch, and measure results per location. Google treats each real location as a separate profile, so each one needs complete, accurate information.
How local ranking works
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well a profile matches the search; distance is how far the business is from the searcher; prominence is how well known the business is, including reviews and links. You cannot pay for a better local ranking.
1. A page for each location
Give every branch a page with its address, opening hours, phone number, directions, services offered there and photos. Avoid copying the same text across all pages. Describe what is specific to the branch: the area it serves, the team, the services available, parking or access.
2. A profile for each location
Each eligible location can have its own Google Business Profile. Google’s guidelines say each location gets one profile, locations in the same country should use the same business name, and locations offering the same service should share the same primary category. Virtual offices are not eligible. Check the guidelines before creating profiles.
3. Keep details consistent
- Use the real-world business name, without keywords, taglines or hours added.
- Match names, addresses and phone numbers across your website, profiles and directories.
- Update hours for holidays and changes everywhere at once.
- Link each profile to its own location page, not just the homepage.
Inconsistencies confuse customers and search engines. See local SEO for how we audit and fix them.
4. Reviews and photos
Ask satisfied customers for genuine reviews for the specific branch, and respond to them politely. Keep photos current. Never buy reviews or offer incentives that break platform rules.
5. Measure by location
Track calls, direction requests, bookings and enquiries by branch so you know where to improve. Compare locations to find what works and repeat it. Combine this with the broader technical SEO checklist.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use one Google Business Profile for all branches?
No. Each location gets its own profile; one profile cannot represent several branches.
Should every branch page have unique content?
Yes. Pages that only swap the address are weak. Add what is specific to the branch.
Do service-area businesses need an address?
Service-area businesses can set a service area, and may hide the address if customers do not visit. Follow Google’s guidelines for your case.
How do I handle a branch that closes?
Mark the profile as closed rather than deleting it, redirect the location page to the nearest branch, and update directories.
